Meet The Founder
Chahrazed Anane – Former senior humanitarian leader, now career and leadership advisor for humanitarian and development professionals.
After more than 15 years working in international organisations across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe, I know the humanitarian system from the inside: its operational realities, its recruitment practices, its leadership challenges, and the often unspoken impact these have on people’s careers and lives.
I have led protection and programme teams, managed complex projects, been involved in recruitment and performance management, and navigated organisational change, restructuring, and transitions. I also know, from personal experience, what it means to move from contract to contract without a clear career strategy, and how easy it is for even very strong professionals to lose direction in an increasingly competitive and uncertain sector.
Humanitarian Career Consulting was created to offer what is often missing in our field:
a space to think strategically about your own career with the same seriousness, structure, and care that you give to operations and programmes.
Today, I support humanitarian and development professionals to:
– Clarify their professional direction in moments of uncertainty or transition
– Position their profile strategically for competitive recruitment processes
– Translate complex experience into a clear CV, LinkedIn profile, and interview narrative
– Navigate career shifts within or beyond the aid sector
– Step into leadership roles with confidence and intention
My approach is warm and human, but also rigorous and strategic. I combine field and management experience with a deep understanding of how recruitment, positioning, and career decisions are actually made in the humanitarian system.
Your career deserves the same level of care, structure, and strategic thinking as the work you do for others.

Frequently Asked Questions Career Transitions, Job Search, and Executive Accompaniment
Choosing the right professional support is an important decision. The questions in this section aim to offer clarity so you can determine whether this accompaniment is the right fit for you.
-
I primarily accompany experienced professionals, often from the humanitarian, development, nonprofit, and international sectors, who are navigating a meaningful professional evolution.
Many reach out at a moment when remaining on their current path no longer feels fully aligned, yet the next step is not entirely defined.
Some are exploring a transition.
Others are engaged in a demanding job search.
Many are stepping into greater leadership responsibility. Our work brings structure, clarity, and strategic direction to this pivotal period so that your next move is intentional rather than reactive.
While most of my clients have 10+ years of experience, I also support professionals at earlier stages when the decisions ahead carry long-term impact.
-
Transitions may include:
• stepping into more strategic or leadership roles
• moving beyond the humanitarian or nonprofit sector
• repositioning after organizational change or funding shifts
• shaping a portfolio career or independent activity
• returning from the field and redefining professional direction
• seeking renewed meaning, coherence, and sustainability at this stage of one’s careerYou do not need to have everything figured out before we begin that is precisely what this partnership is designed to support.
-
Both and often the two are closely connected.
A job search at senior level is rarely just about applying.
It requires positioning, narrative clarity, credibility, and strategic focus.Together, we work on:
• translating complex experience into a strong professional narrative
• strengthening your CV, LinkedIn profile, and interview presence
• identifying realistic and aligned opportunities
• avoiding scattered applications that drain energy
• building a structured, contained search strategyThe objective is not simply to secure “a job,” but to support a move that makes professional and personal sense.
-
My work integrates deep listening with strategic advisory.
Before founding Humanitarian Career Consulting, I spent over 15 years in senior humanitarian roles, managing teams, programs, and complex operational environments across multiple regions.
This lived understanding allows me to grasp quickly what is often left unsaid: the institutional dynamics, leadership pressures, identity shifts, and ethical questions that accompany professional transitions.
Clients are not coming for generic coaching.
They are seeking a thoughtful external perspective, structured thinking, and a partner capable of challenging assumptions while remaining deeply respectful of their trajectory.
-
I bring a clear methodology but not rigidity.
Your context, constraints, energy, and aspirations guide the process. As your situation evolves, our work evolves with it.
This is not a standardized program.
It is a structured partnership grounded in your experience, your values, and the realities of the environments you navigate.Beyond strengthening professional tools, we focus on:
• clarifying your narrative
• identifying credible paths forward
• supporting complex decisions
• restoring momentum and confidenceMany clients also experience a significant reduction in the fatigue that often accompanies senior-level searches because the process becomes more intentional, contained, and far less solitary.
-
Very often, senior professionals benefit the most from strategic accompaniment.
Leadership roles can be intellectually demanding and at times unexpectedly isolating. Having a trusted external advisor creates space for reflection, sharper decision-making, and forward-looking strategy.
My perspective is informed not only by more than 15 years in senior humanitarian environments, but also by a close understanding of how the broader world of work is evolving.
I remain attentive to:
• the growing intersections between the aid sector and the private sector
• shifting leadership expectations
• portfolio and hybrid career paths
• the impact of technological transformation — including AI — on roles, recruitment, and professional positioningThis allows our work to remain grounded in today’s realities while preparing you for what is emerging.
This is not remedial support.
It is high-level professional thinking for complex careers. -
Each trajectory is unique, yet clients often report:
• greater clarity and direction
• stronger professional positioning
• renewed confidence
• more focused job searches
• improved interview outcomes
• better-aligned professional opportunitiesPerhaps most importantly, they regain a sense of authorship over their career.
-
While many of my clients come from the humanitarian and international sectors, the underlying questions we work on direction, positioning, leadership, meaning, extend beyond any single field.
Professionals transitioning toward foundations, academia, consulting, or mission-driven private organizations often find this work particularly valuable.
-
This accompaniment is future-oriented and strategy-focused.
It is not therapy.
It is not informal mentoring.
And it goes beyond purely exploratory coaching. My role is to help you think with structure, challenge your assumptions when needed, and translate reflection into concrete professional movement.
-
Choosing to seek professional accompaniment is a thoughtful decision particularly for experienced professionals who are used to navigating complexity independently.
This is precisely why our first conversation matters.
During this initial exchange, we explore your context, the questions currently shaping your professional reflection, and the type of support that would be genuinely useful.
Sometimes a focused, shorter engagement is sufficient.
At other times, a more sustained partnership provides the space required for deeper repositioning. If I believe that another format — or even another type of support — would serve you better, I will tell you openly.
Clarity and integrity guide my recommendations.
There is no expectation to proceed.
Only the intention to help you determine what is truly appropriate for your situation.👉 Book a conversation when you feel ready.
